Who We Are
FIT is the Federation of professional associations of interpreters, translators, and terminologists working in areas as diverse as literary, scientific and technical spheres, the public service, court and legal settings, conference interpreting, media and diplomatic fields and academia.
The goal of the Federation is to promote professionalism in the disciplines it represents. It constantly seeks to improve conditions for the profession worldwide and to uphold translators’ rights and freedom of expression.
FIT supports members and the profession at an international level, building community, visibility and a sustainable future for the profession.
Working together to consolidate a united, sustainable, recognised profession to fulfil the expanding global need for translation, associations benefit from both local and international activities coordinated by a federation with global presence and established connections.

Linguistic Diversity and Language Rights. The theme of the International Translation Day 2026 webinar is “Linguistic Diversity and Language Rights” – Translation, interpreting and terminology at the heart of linguistic inclusion, with “the power of being understood” as subtitle. It is a timely and highly relevant theme for International Translation Day (ITD) 2026, highlighting the essential role of translation, interpreting, and terminology in fostering inclusion, equity, and participation in an increasingly interconnected world.
